A client approached me to sculpt a portrait of her deceased son, who passed away shortly after joining the military.
First I sculpted the portrait in clay.
Next, I cast the clay portrait in plaster, creating what is called a negative form.
I needed water to help release the form from the clay.
After opening the cast, I closed it again and poured in the plaster.
It’s a slow process to chip the plaster cast away.
After that, I spent time refining his features.
And here’s the final portrait.
